Clever Packaging saves the world
Packaging is often seen as being bad for the environment, even though plastic packaging has served the world for many years.
The main function of packaging is to preserve the product. This way packaging saves an enormous amount of product wastage and ensures the product reaches its destination safely, anywhere in the world. Clever packaging is the best way to minimize our carbon-footprint and to serve humanity. In this respect AFP is “packed with solutions”:
RE-duce waste:
Not the packaging, not
the transport but the product itself has the biggest effect on the carbon-footprint.
So reducing waste is the most effective way of saving the earth. Effective packaging
is a perfect way to reduce waste by protecting and preserving the product.
Our Bread bag film (Resinex 264) reduced wastage of breads in bakeries by 80% and more.
Our Klappack film (Pro-Ex 2264) reduced wastage of meat and
cheese by extending the shelf life.
Our High Holdingforce Stretchfilm (Katan-Ex HH) reduced wastage and
extra transport of pallets with beverage bottles by 80%.
RE-duce material:
If less materials can be used without loss of functionality benefits the world.
With new constructions, base resins and technologies AFP has reduced packaging
material enormously. Examples are:
The amount of packaging material per kg cheese with our IWS film
(Resinex 225) has been reduced by almost 40%.
With our High Puncture Stretchfilm (Katan-Ex HP) AFP has been able to replace packaging with films which are 50% lighter.
AFP has implemented a solvent free lamination.
RE-cycle material:
AFP is
making use of its resources to the maximum. 99% of its primary waste is recycled
in-house. Only a small amount of this base material is sold for external
recycling and re-use.
Solvents used for the printing process are recovered via a distillation process
and re-used in our production.
RE-newable material:
AFP realizes that the
traditional source for plastics is not sustainable. It is therefore in our own
interest to invest in new technologies and renewable material for packaging. For
this reason AFP co-operates with
competent partners as well as
universities.
(Starch based, PLA or PHA based films)
RE-sponsible:
AFP develops clever packaging:
In general flexible plastic films ensure packed products have a smaller carbon-
foot print than with glass, tin and paper.
AFP invests in the local environment:
The ‘sustainable groundwater management’ project, in which the Veluwe water
authority, AFP, Owens Corning, Apeldoorn Municipality and Gelderland Province
work closely together, is in progress. The intended is that the Apeldoorn Municipality
pumps up the contaminated groundwater. Which AFP then uses as cooling water, which
is cleaned and then carried back as
clean water to the "Eendrachtspreng". AFP, as a part of this special water management scheme will be
working to solve more than one problem.
RE-think:
AFP feels responsible for the well being of its employees, its customers, its neighbourhood and our planet. This responsibility, becomes our challenge every day, working on clever packaging solutions. Clever Packaging saving the world.
